A Perfect Northern Michigan Adventure

Looking for a beautiful way to spend the day outdoors? The Betsie Valley Trail is one of Northern Michigan’s hidden gems, offering a scenic, multi-use path perfect for biking, hiking, running, and more. Stretching 22 miles from Frankfort to Mesick, this trail follows the historic Ann Arbor Railroad corridor and winds through picturesque small towns, woodlands, and alongside the stunning Betsie River. Whether you’re seeking a leisurely ride, a brisk walk, or a peaceful moment in nature, this trail has something for everyone.

A Trail with a Story

The Betsie Valley Trail has deep historical roots. From 1892 to 1985, this route was used for freight and passenger rail service, with car ferries transporting goods across Lake Michigan. When rail service ceased, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) acquired the corridor in 1998, paving the way for today’s beloved recreational trail. Since then, the Friends of Betsie Valley Trail (FBVT) have helped maintain and enhance the trail, ensuring visitors can continue to enjoy this beautiful path through Northern Michigan.
