In May 2023 Budget Travel named Traverse City one of the Coolest Small Towns. They felt that Traverse City’s downtown had been “ lovingly refurbished, its historical buildings brought to a fresh sheen, making it both a spectacle and a place to shop, dine, and attend cultural events.”
Traverse City’s downtown also offers farmer markets, activities and entertainment throughout the season. You can visit Downtown TC for the latest information on downtown events.
Both the Old Mission and Leelanau Peninsulas have award winning wineries that offer wine tastings and many have light snacks to full meals available. You can visit Up North Wineries to find area wineries and companies that offer tours.
Budget Travel went on to talk about the area’s natural attractions. Traverse City has multiple beautiful freshwater beaches to enjoy. The surrounding area offers numerous trails, many taking you to spectacular views.
In the fall a drive up the Old Mission Peninsula or into the Leelanau Peninsula will provide stunning photo opportunities. When the snow starts falling the area offers downhills skiing at local ski resorts, cross country skiing on groomed trails and snowshoes trails. You can rent a snowmobiles from Patrick’s brother Jeff who owns Snowblitz and explore the area via groomed trails from Peegoes.
As the snow melts and spring starts sliding in is the time to smell the cherry and apple blossoms that you will find throughout the area. Bring your bikes and ride the trails.
Of course the summer is when Traverse City really comes to life. Besides regular adult entertainment at area clubs, breweries, distilleries, etc. Traverse City offers many family friendly events as well. The biggest attraction is the National Cherry Festival that features top music acts, carnival rides, competitions and of course cherries. Lots and lots of cherries. Don’t miss the fireworks for the 4th and to the awesome display to close out the festival! For all events in and around Traverse City visit Traverse City Tourism.
